Description:3am Labs is currently operating under the name LogMeIn. Although the company only recently changed their name in 2006; LogMeIn was started by the company’s current Chief Technical Officer Marton Anka in 2003. He is also known as the creator of RemotelyAnywhere. LogMeIn’s Chief Executive Officer is Michael Simon, Kevin Farrell is its Vice President; Jim Kelliher stands as the company’s Chief Financial Officer; and their Chief Marketing Officer is Carol Meyers.

3am Labs closed its first venture funding in November 2004. Its venture partners were Prism Venture Partners of Massachusetts, 3TS Venture Partners of Budapest, and Integral Capital Partners of California. 3am Labs’s second series of funding was in December 2005 with Polaris Venture Partners of Massachusetts. The company filed its registration for a proposed initial public offering in January 2008.

In August 2006, the company acquired Applied Networking, Incorporated. Applied Networking is a software development company focusing on advanced networking and data security. It is the maker of Hamachi, a virtual private network (VPN) permitting arrangement of a number of computers into a secure network. Information can be accessed and shared as if the computers are connected by a cable.

3am Labs or LogMeIn is a provider of on-demand remote access for mobile professionals, information technology service providers, businesses, and end-users. It is an application for managing servers and workstations whether on and off the network. Since remote access is a high risk factor for security attack; 3am Labs prioritizes secure design objectives during software development. LogMeIn uses an SSL/TSL (Secure Sockets Layer/Transport Layer Secure) to verify server identity. It also provides other security options such as One-Time-Password and Wireless password through a cell phone or pager.

The LogMeIn products are of two kinds, one for IT providers and the other for mobile professionals. For the former, services are LogMeIn IT Reach, Rescue, RemotelyAnywhere, and Network Console. IT Reach needs no installation and can be accessed through the web. Rescue provides instant remote support in seconds. RemotelyAnywhere is for a remote administration to gain access to all the systems it manages. Finally, to support the features of IT Reach and RemotelyAnywhere they created the Network Console.

The company also offers products specifically made for mobile professionals. These are the LogMeIn Free, Pro, Backup, Hamachi, and Ignition. Free gives the user fast access from any computer with Internet connection for free. Pro provides flawless total access to the user’s PC from any computer with Internet connection. Backup facilitates transfer and safe storage of data to devices controlled by the user. Hamachi easily sets up in ten minutes, allowing secure access to user’s business network. Ignition is a single-click access to several computers from any location.

LogMeIn recently released an Ignition version for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch in October of 2008. It features a one-touch access to remote PCs and a remote computer’s list in the “My Computers” icon. It also has full keyboard, mouse, zoom, and scroll control for the iPhone/iPod touch screen. An option is set for optimized control of the remote computer such as keyboard locking, screen blanking, and screen resolution.
