Company name: Accton
Description: The Taiwan based company Accton was founded in February of 1988 and was primarily involved in the production of Wireless LAN and Ethernet products. From its humble startup, the company has grown into a major player in the international IT industry with a workforce of 2,500 employees including those from its satellite offices located within the Middle East, Singapore, United Kingdom, India, Japan, and the continental United States.
Accton has likewise aligned itself with other companies within and outside Taiwan for the development of its product portfolio. Headquartered in the Taiwan Science Industrial Park, the company undertook a joint venture in 2003 with the Royal Philips Electronics (more popularly known as Philips) company.
The wireless solutions marketed by the company were boosted with the merger with the startup company Arcadyan. Since the merger, Philips, Arcadyan, and Accton began collaboration in majority of the development process in an attempt to further enhance the wired and wireless networking technology.
This process benefited from the extensive experience of Philips in working with wireless multimedia technologies. This collaboration effort also focused on the production of numerous wireless networking applications that cover home networking capabilities that can be delivered to multimedia ready devices.
Prior to this collaboration, Accton was also involved in a joint venture agreement in 2002 with the SVA group situated in mainland China. This led to the creation of the SVA Accton Company which was a subsidiary dedicated to the research and development of products designed to enhance backbone network devices. This technology covers both the L2 and the L3 switches along with VDSL, and similar wireless LAN support products.
The company’s operation falls under the classification of ODM and OEM due to its assembly of computer hardware marketed by third party vendors and distributed under the vendor’s brand name. Accton is centered on the production of application specific IC (Integrated Circuits), Internet integration, and chassis switches.
Through its continuous development efforts, the company got involved in the production of VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) Integrated Box, FTTx fiver, enterprise access points, wireless multi-channel gateways, and PoE (Power over Ethernet) switches. These devices support the three major hardware development framework applied by the company.
The company’s products comply with accepted international standards and have received ISO 9001 (1993) and ISO 14000 (1994) Certifications. In 2000, the company also got the TL9000 Certification which is a testament to the quality of its products and business practices. The company’s diversification involves investment in over 70 companies either in the capacity of a primary or supportive minority shareholder.
