Description: Advanced Communication Technologies (Acotec) was founded in October of 1998 out of the merger between Acotec GmbH and Virtual Motion Inc. The merger agreement took six months to be finalized with the final stipulations including the official use of the corporate name Acotec. According the Acotec CEO Ken Hilliard, the change in name is a symbolism of the successful integration process undertaken by both companies.

The full integration process resulted in the building of a strong international corporation whose main focus is the development of leading edge solutions for remote access management and connectivity. By August 24, 1999, the company initiated a new VAR enlistment program which intended to target existing Digi International VARs. With the program current Digi authorized resellers also become authorized Acotec VARS by joining the enlistment program which ended in September of the same year.

The program was undertaken to maximize Acotec technology in relation with the routing and remote access adapter cards provided by Digi International to the computer industry. The strategic alliance would directly benefit PC systems running on standard operating systems.
