Company Name: Advanced Card Systems

Description: Initially carrying the name Advanced Electronics Ltd. in 1995 by its founder Denny Wong Yiu Chu, it was recognized in a survey conducted by Frost and Sullivan as the top supplier of PC-linked smart cards and readers in the Asia Pacific region.

Furthermore, the company ranked fourth in the international IT market in terms of smart card application distributions. Part of the company operation was dedicated to the distribution of Motorola Semiconductors in the Hong Kong market along with providing design and engineering services.

By 1997 the company adapted the name Advanced Card Systems Ltd. (ACS) with its founder functioning in the capacity of general manager. Presently, he occupies the position of Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board. Other members of the executive team are Tan Keng Boon (Executive Director) and Alice Wong Tsui Kam Ling (VP for Operations).

Boon concentrates his efforts in the development of the company’s business through the establishment of new customer bases and strategic relations. Ling supervises operation in the area of logistics, production, and quality control assurance. The company is actively traded in the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

The company remained focused in the design and manufacture of smart card operating systems. These products are primarily deployed in the fields of Internet security, banking, government identification cards, public transportation, and national health cards.

The product portfolio of ACS is classified into the families of: GSM management tools, PC-linked readers with mass storage, physical access control, smart card readers with PIN-pad, smart card door locks, fingerprint readers, smart card operating systems, contactless readers, smart card balance readers, and PC-linked smart card readers. ACS extends its delivery in the area of customized products based on customer specified requisites.

One of the major impacts made by ACS to the market came in August of 2008 with the introduction of the ACR100 SimFlash device which is described as a Chip/Card Interface Device that doubled as the Human Interface Device. The product is considered as a mass storage tool with a built-in 1Gb flash memory. It is capable of hosting SIM sized smart cards with application for data storage, e-commerce, network security, VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), online banking, and other GSM based programs.

The said device was considered as one of the most innovative product to come into the IT market reinforced by the 2006 Ultimate Card of the Year Award handed in Malaysia.

Interested managers and computer engineers in the smart card production industry can take advantage of the seminars and trainings provided by ACS to interested customers. The program was initiated and handled by Boon in his capacity as Chief Technical Officer. The latest training was held in June of 2008 at the Chinese University of Hong Kong with majority of the participants being Information Technology students.
