Description: The Ahead AG company based in Karlsbad, Germany was established in 1995 by Richard Lesser. The German based firm was widely known for its product portfolio of optical media authoring applications that were eventually bundled with commercially available optical media drives and recorders.

The company was initially named Ahead Software AG until it adopted the Ahead AG corporate name as part of its branding efforts for its marketing of the most popular product in its portfolio, the Ahead Nero Burning ROM software.

Presently, the company operation is backed up by solid partnerships with other industry leaders like Ateme Corporation which assists Ahead in the development and marketing of the Nero Digital which is a compression software package that caters to the MPEG-4 audio and video format. Ahead has consistently maintained its focus in the area of developing technologies for multimedia and digital format data generations.

Ahead Software GmbH made the initial release of the Nero Burning ROM application in 1997, just two years after the company was created. In the same year, the company developed and released to the It market three consecutive upgrade version of their flagship software. In 2001, the company became a stock corporation and took on the corporate name of Ahead Software AG.

Another company milestone in 2001 was the putting up of its manufacturing facility in Glendale, USA to serve as a dedicated service area for the development, production, and distribution of its popular Nero product line. By 2004 the Nero K.K. which is another branch of Ahead AG was created in Yokohama, Japan. The move was an attempt to harness the best of Japanese technology and integrate it with the existing technological innovations undertaken by the company.

Aside from optical media authoring software, the company also provides solutions for both data and media projects which are normally burned onto optical media either for backup or playback purposes. With this expansion, the company launched into the IT market the Nero Media Player and the Nero PhotoShow applications which were capable of directly accessing media and digital files that are stored on an optical media. The applications also were smart enough to determine the most capable program to handle specific file formats.

SDK (Software Development Kits) were produced by the company to allow the development of program interfaces for various operating systems and to cater to additional services. These kits also allow for the implementation of additional media codecs to support a wider range of multimedia files.

Ahead AG products take the position of being platform neutral in order to cater to a wider range of computer users without regard for the operating system or the program that initially created the media file.

The company also successfully ventured into the modern mobile communications industry with the launching of the Nero Mobile application in 2006. The expansion of Ahead continued the following year with the addition of its facility site in HangZhou, China.
