Description: Founded by Katsumi Iizuka (former President of the Dell Computer of Japan) in Sept. 18, 1995 the Akia Corporation reflects majority of the experience he has gained in over 20 years of involvement in the IT industry.

Beginning his career in 1973 with Radio Shack (formerly known as Tandy), Iizuka pioneered the expansion of the company which led to his hiring by Dell Computer. While at Dell, he instigated the selling of Personal Computer systems directly to the Japanese computer market. This is the same business model he applied upon creation of Akia.

Iizuka’s position at Dell Computer made his realize the vital role of the PC system in the overall business landscape. Driven by this realization and the perceived need to supply the market demand, in September 1995 Akia Corporation formally entered the IT market via its headquarters in Chuo-Ku, Japan. In less than two years through Iizuka’s leadership, the company became one of the fastest growing and widely recognized in the field of computer technology in Japan.

In June of 1997 through the initiative of former Dell executive Dr. David S. Register, the organization of the Akia Corporation, USA began. By leveraging the success in the Japanese market with his strong relationship with integral players in the Asian manufacturing industry, Dr. Register ably identified the core technology and the right marketing executives to lead the company’s drive in the US market.

Highly regarded as a PC manufacturing company that is responsible for distributing high end Japanese language based computer systems, Akia created $40 million in revenues during its first 10 months of operation alone.

This feat expanded the company’s popularity around the globe because it convincingly outsold top PC vendors in the international IT market. The company achieved this success by capitalizing on the American business strategies acquired by Iizuka while he was with Dell Computer.

The Texas based Akia same as its parent company in Japan maintains the commitment of offering only the best and the newest in desktop and mobile computing technologies directly to its customer base. The company successfully acquired several rights from brand name enterprises like FlexaBay, Tornado, and Mystique. The company promptly took over the trademarks of these products and distributed them to the IT market associated with the Akia name.

The company also markets and distributes portable computer systems such as the Akia Tornado TS166, TS200, and the TX233 among others. The success of these products in the highly competitive market is attributed partly to the company strategy of targeting small businesses for the deployment of their products.

Other noteworthy introductions of the company to the market include micro footprint desktop, LCD monitors, and notebook computer systems. The emergence of e-commerce as a viable business model, the company began expansion of its product portfolio to include devices such as set-top boxes, CD and DVD players, VCR players, audio speakers, and MP3 players.

On September 18, 1997 the Mystique Series micro footprint desktop computer system made its way into the computer market. This release was simultaneous with the introduction of the slimline LCD Active Matrix color monitors as a solution for space constraints in the home and business environments.
