The foremost products manufactured by AMREL Corp. had been electronic loads and power supplies that are capable of being programmed. It was in September of 2002 that an agreement was signed between Lockheed Martin and AMREL. The multi-million dollar deal made the company Lockheed’s official supplier of power and electronic loads for its ATE test stations. The Lockheed test stations are utilized in the Joint Strike Fighter Project and are valued at US$200 billion. The said project is for the United States Marine Corps, Navy and Air Force and also includes the United Kingdom Royal Air Force and Navy.
An expansion of AMREL’s product line would later be implemented. This included the desktop, handheld, mobile and versatile rugged computers. The company was also split into three divisions. American Reliance became in charge of power systems and products, Amrel Telecom is responsible for testing equipments for telecommunications and Amrel Systems handles the rugged mobile computing solutions.
AMREL Corp. is among the leading manufacturers of what is now called the ruggedized computing devices. AMREL products are available in over 100 countries and are used by a number of military outfits. Amrel Systems has approximately 20 to 50 employees headquartered in an office located in Arcadia, California. Its revenue in sales ranges from US$5 to US$9.9 million annually.
The Rocky rugged computer is Amrel Systems’ primary product line. It has passed a number of standards set by the military including MIL-STD 810F and MIL-STD 461E, among others. The computer is capable of functioning under extreme conditions and withstanding 4-inches of rain on all sides. Aside from being shock-proof, it could also withstand explosions.
The Rocky notebooks had been made using Novatel’s Expedite wireless IP modem. A number of Amrel System’s products are being distributed by Amrel Approved Vendors or AAV. Among them is the Customer Crime Reporting Solutions Company.
The second release of the product line has already been introduced in the market. The second product line includes a tablet computer, a PDA and a notebook. Also included in the said product line is a computer that could be plugged into a vehicle and a power management tool specifically for vehicles called the Power Stop.
