Company Name: AOpen
Description: AOpen was established in 1996 as a subsidiary of Acer. Its name had originally been AcerOpen. The main offices of both companies are situated in Taipei, Taiwan. It was in May of 1997 that AOpen launched its first 24X CD-ROM drive. The company opened more offices in the Europe and the United States in December of the same year. In May of the following year, AOpen opened another factory in Taoyuan, Taiwan. By March of 2003, additional offices had already been opened in Germany.
It was in July of 2000 that AOpen International Co., Ltd. opened in Shanghai, China and in less than a year the stocks of the company were being offered in Taiwan over-the-counter. The following year, an office branch was opened by AOpen in Japan and the company’s headquarters was then moved to the Nang Kang Software Park in Taipei. By August of 2002, AOpen International Co., Ltd. had been made public.
The company was the first in the world to manufacture colored motherboards. The AX3S Pro Sweet Kiss was in introduced in the market in November of 2000. A number of other colored computer components were manufactured afterwards. Several months after the release of the colored motherboards, AOpen designed a vacuum embedded motherboard referred to as the AX4B-533. At around the same time, the company introduced to its consumers the earliest DVD+RW/+R burners.
It was in August of 2001 that the first notebook bare system called the BareBook was launched. By the end of the year the AOpen distributed the first DVD+RW drive. In 2002, the XC cube series of SF PCs were released in the international market.
The Desk Book computer was among the earliest modularized and mobile computers that are capable of handling almost every format of multimedia. The product was released in March 2003. Four months after the release of the Desk Book, the XC Cube bare systems were introduced. The said product line was further expanded by the company. By early 2004, AOpen International Co., Ltd. lunched its EA65 digital AV computer.
The company was involved in the development and creation of the world’s smallest miniPC in 2005. The Wintel PC had been a miniPC model that comes with a Mobile on Desktop Technology or MoDT. The other one had been the first smallest desktop computer that has a Pico BTX form factor. A majority of users had used the i915GMm-HFS board that supports the chipset Intel 915 and the foremost uATX motherboard. In was on the following year that the second generation of miniPCs was released.
In 2007, AOpen International Co., Ltd., in collaboration with Mitsubishi Motors Taiwan, launched the world’s first car PC which was initially released in Taiwan. AOpen continues to develop new technologies and this is evident in its release of the Digital Signage Display or DSD in 2008 and the Advanced Aggregate Display or ADD in 2007. Both products had been intended for digital signage and advertising.
