Description: The American Power Conversion or APC was established in 1981 by three engineers from the Massachusetts Information Technology Lincoln Lab. The company had originally been involved in the research for solar power devices and systems. However, when the funding for the said research had dried up without any results whatsoever, APC shifted its research on power protection instead. The first uninterruptible power supply or UPS was introduced to the market by the American Power Conversion in 1984.
The sales offices of APC operate all over the globe and since its inception in 1981 has been involved in the development of facilities across three continents from its headquarters in West Kingston, RI. The company’s global team focused on the four basic and key application areas such as business networks, home or small offices, facilities, access and data centers and provider networks.
American Power Conversion’s signature product, the InfrastruXure, is considered to be the most widely used power, management and cooling data center solution. It has been employed in network-critical physical infrastructure or NCPI and has been designed to be capable of cooling and integrating power, services and rack.
InfrastruXure is an APC product that is designed to be easily scalable. Users are enabled to make modifications on the components when need be. The said method has a patent pending and provides users with an increased availability, deployment on a rapid pace and improved adaptability other than the lowering of total expenses for the IT environments which include the wiring closets of data centers and computer rooms.
It was in February of 2007 that the company Schneider Electric purchased the American Power Conversion. It is now known as the Schneider Electric’s Critical Power and Cooling Services Division. What had once been a widely held company in July of 1988, had been traded over the NASDAQ exchange at the same time that the company was sold. The company was listed in the S&P 500 Stock Market Index by the Hudson City Bancorp on the same year.
Presently, the company, which is now a division of Schneider Electric, is a global leader in the manufacture of the uninterrupted AC, electronic peripherals, DC-based back-up power products and services including surge suppressors, DC power systems, power management software, and power conditioning equipment.
