Description: On the first of April 1976, Apple Computer Incorporated was founded in Cupertino, California by Steve Jobs, Ronald Wayne, and Steve Wozniak. Then on the 3rd of January 1977, the company was incorporated with only Wozniak and Jobs on board because Ronald Wayne had sold his share to the company’s remaining founders for US$800. During the incorporation, the critical funds needed by the company were provided by Mark Markkula. It amounted to US$250,000.
The company employed the name Apple Computer, Inc. for 30 years and by January 9, 2007, they had decided to drop “Computer” from the name. It is presently known as Apple Inc.
Apple Inc. is currently involved in the design and manufacture of software products and consumer electronics. The hardware products manufactured by the company include its product line of Macintosh computers, iPod media players and iPhone cellular phones.
Among Apple Inc.’s software products are the Final Cut Studio, iLife multimedia suite, iTunes media browser and the Mac OSX operating system. The company has over 200 retail stores spread across 7 countries. The company’s products are also sold through the online store of Apple Inc., resellers and wholesalers.
The company started out in the business with just a single product called the Apple I. The Apple I was a single board computer that Wozniak had built in a garage workshop. The computer kit had a CPU, basic textual video chips and RAM. It was first introduced at the Homebrew Computer Club which was made up of technical enthusiasts. The market price of Apple I was US$666.66.
What followed was the introduction of Apple II which was an improvement of the first product. Its features include an open architecture and color graphics. The said product came with a pre-installed spreadsheet program called the VisiCalc. Its compatibility to a typical office increased the sales of the company
Because of the growing market for computers, the company developed the Apple III to compete with Microsoft and IBM. It was during this time that the company had several people in its employ. The employees were composed of a production line and computer designers.
The computers manufactured by Apple called Macintosh is run by an operating system called Mac OS. Macintosh computers include the Mac Pro, Mac mini, iMac, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and MacBook.
It was in October of 2001 that Apple Inc. had first introduced the digital music player called the iPod. The product became hugely popular and was a market leader in portable music players. In fact, as of 2007, Apple Inc. has sold over 100 million units of iPod. Presently there are four types of iPod. They are the iPod classic, iPod iPod touch, iPod nano and iPod Shuffle.
The iPhone was unveiled by Steve Jobs in January of 2007. The iPhone is a hybrid of an iPod and a smart phone that is Internet-enabled. It has a multi-touch screen with minimal hardware.
Apple Inc. is among the recognized names in the industry of consumer electronics. The advertising campaigns and unique aesthetic design of its products have generated a loyal customer base. Apple Inc. has been named the most admired company by Fortune Magazine.
