Description: Ark is the company that developed the free Linux program called the Ark Linux. The said program is designed in such a way that it is easy to install and use. The Ark Linux was developed and created by Bernahard Rosenkraenzer and comes in an installable CD or Live CD. The default Desktop Environment of the said application is K Desktop Development or KDE.
Ark Linux’s core system is composed of a single CD that is capable of providing a distinct and new desktop. The desktop provided has different components including an office suite, instant messaging, sharing clients and Internet access tools. The application has add-on CDs that contain more applications that may be installed by means of the Advanced Packaging Tool.
An online storage area is available for programs that are not supported such as the NVIDIA 3D driver or Adobe Flash. The program Ark Linux employs APT and RPM together with a Synaptic Package Manager port KDE in the management of its packages as the graphical front-end.
Ark offers users four packages. The Dockyard package belongs to the system core and has been tested. The Dockyard Contrib has license restrictions and although they have also been tested, they do not belong to the system core. Dockyard-Develop is a package that is significantly developmental to the core. Lastly, the Dockyard-Devel Contrib is not a part of the core system.
The small tools that facilitate the production of specific patches and files for RPM source packages are referred to as v*toolchain. Upon installation, it provides additional packages and updates from the Dockyard trees and Dockyard contrib.
All of the versions of the Ark are tested snapshots of the Dockyard tree. A default installation is capable of informing from the Dockyard trees and the Dockyard contrib. Reinstallation is no longer necessary once a new release has been created. Because the Dockyard tree has been updated, the new issue is automatically obtained by the client by implementing an apt-get dist upgrade.
The initial version of the product had been the 1.0 alpha 1. The said version had been proof that the Linux can be run with three clicks on the mouse. It was released in August of 2001.
