Unicore was then made a subordinate company. However in September of 1998, Award Software International Inc. was absorbed by the Phoenix Technologies in a merger. Phoenix Technologies is also a manufacturer of BIOS software and had developed the El Torito CD Specification standard in collaboration with IBM.
Award Software International Inc. was a leading company in the worldwide shipment of desktop BIOS and x86-based servers with its delivery of over 28 million units in 1996. Award Software is engaged in the development, design and marketing of system management software or SMS intended for the manufacturers of mobile phones, desktops, servers and embedded systems.
The SMS merchandises of Award Software is comprised of the SMSAccess group-isolated system management applications EliteBIOS, the enabling CardWare PC Card software, and the APIAccess capable of bringing industry-standard feature program interfaces into real-time operating system standards. The company has over 120 people in its employ.

The Embedded and Internet Products Division of the company provides the required system structure blocks including the Embedded EliteBIOS with remote administration capability, Middleware products with industry-standard features that are designed for real-time operating system standards and programming interfaces, and comprehensive web browser answers that are ready for integration into the hardware of OEMs.
