Description: Barco was established in 1934 by Lucien De Puydt in Poperinge, Belgium. The company initially specialized in the assembly of radios with parts that come from the U.S. Hence, it was given the name “Belgian American Radio Corporation”, also known as Barco.

Barco has global operations with facilities for Manufacturing, Customer Support, R&D, and Sales Marketing. It has more than 90 offices distributed in Europe, North America, South America, Asia Pacific, and the Middle East.

Barco now has its main headquarters in Kortijk, Belgium, with employees of more than 3600 around the world. The company is composed of its Chief Executive Officer Martin De Prycker and its Chief Financial Officer Dirk De Man. Other key people in executive management are Stephan Paridaen, Luc Vanderbrouke, and Carl Peeters.

The company continues to expand its services with the acquisition of some companies such as Texas-based High End Systems, Inc., System technologies, and Voxar. Barco also has a graphics division, called Barco Graphics, which was the result of the merger of Aesthedes, Digitised Information Systems Corporation, and the company’s own Creative Group.

Barco offers professional market solutions for visualization and display. The company provides design and development of imaging and visual needs of markets for traffic and surveillance, simulation, presentation, education, entertainment, media, digital cinema, and avionics.

The company offers products such as projectors, display monitors, LED solutions, sensors and sensor processing services, workstations and servers, lighting products, multi-projector displays, and image processing.

Barco also developed software that is used in the management of air traffic, advanced medical imaging, remote desktops, and broadcasting. The software is called Osyris and has features that ensure smooth airport traffic flow using its “Arrival and Departure Manager”.

Barco likewise has a product called the “XDS Control Center Software Suite” which is a multiple windowing system that allows maximum interaction between projection systems and projectors. The product supposedly allows a connected projection system to be transformed to a collaboration canvas.

Barco is also noted for image processing because of its product called “Presentation Systems”. This system for video processing is regarded to be the most advanced application available to users. Some features of the product include options for source selection, video effects, and advanced windowing characteristics.
Barco's latest product to date is the Vista-4500. It is a console that has multiple functions, utilized for sonar applications and is implemented in submarines and naval ships.
