Description: In 1984, Acer Peripherals was established in Taipei, Taiwan but the company’s name was subsequently renamed to Acer CM (Communications and Media). With the company’s name mistakenly associated with the Acer computer company, Acer CM again changed its corporate name to BenQ Corp.

The BenQ Corp. is part of the conglomerate called as the BenQ Group of companies. The BenQ Group is composed of twelve companies that include BenQ Business Service Center (BBSC), Daxin Materials Corp., Wellypower Optronics Co., Ltd., Cando Corporation, Daxon Technology, Inc., Qisda Corporation, AU Optronics Corporation, Darfon Electronics Corporation, BenQ Guru Software Co., Ltd., Raydium Semiconductor Corporation, and Darwin Precision Co. Ltd., BenQ Hospital.

No products were released by BenQ Corp under the names Acer Peripherals or Acer CM.

BenQ Corp is principally located at Taipei, Taiwan with branches and offices spread throughout the world such as the Americas, Europe, China, and the Asia Pacific regions. The company employs over 2,000 employees in all its offices. As testament to the popularity of BenQ Corp, its products are renowned in more than 100 countries in the world.

The top management of BenQ Corp is headed by Mr. K.Y. Lee as the company’s Chairman. Other top executives of the company are Mr. Conway Lee as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and President, and Mr. Jerry Wang as Vice Chairman and CMO.

In October 1, 2005, the company acquired Siemen’s AG Division, thus expanding its product line by joining to the global competition in the mobile phone industry. The move allowed BenQ Corp to become the top six in the mobile phone market.

However, BenQ Corporation ceased to provide funds to BenQ Mobile that eventually led for the latter’s filing of bankruptcy on September 2006. With no interested buyer for the company, the company was finally dissolved in February 2007 that resulted in the mass layoff of over 2,000 of its employees.

On September 2007, BenQ changed its corporate structure that allowed its original assets and facilities to be transferred to Qisda Corporation. The Qisda Corporation is the manufacturing firm for the BenQ Company.

On September 3, 2007, the company offered its products to the public that carry the brand name BenQ. The company offers a wide variety of PCs and computer peripherals. Its complete product line consists of TFT LCD TVs and monitors, optical drives, mouse, digital cameras, notebooks, computer keyboards, cellular phones, and digital projectors.
