The company was first called the names Silicon, then Synapse in 1991, then Chaos Studios before they settled on Blizzard Entertainment. Other key people in Executive management are Rob Pardo (Vice President) and Chris Metzen (Vice President of Creative Development).
The main headquarters of Blizzard entertainment is in Irvine California. It houses the Research and Development Team which is composed of more than 250 programmers, designers, artists, sound engineers and producers, all of which are game enthusiasts.
Blizzard Entertainment focuses in creating quality game designs to produce highly enjoyable experiences in game entertainment. The company continues to keep an unparalleled track record in providing game best sellers for more than 10 years. Because of this, it has won many “Game of the Year” awards. Some of their blockbuster hits include Diablo II, World of Warcraft, Starcraft and Warcraft: Reign of Chaos. In addition, Battle.net, its online game service has millions of game participants worldwide.
Blizzard Entrainment also manufactures products based on their popular games. This includes products such as board games, novels, action figures, role-playing games fro pen and paper, and a variety of clothing apparel. In the Trading Card Game category, its World of Warcraft cards is its bestseller.
Starcraft, another game made famous by Blizzard Entertainment, has long been the staple in the category of professional game tournament. Mass popularity of Starcraft in Korea produced legendary phenomena in professional and broadcasting gaming. It also contributed to the growing business of PC game rooms.
Before Blizzard Entertainment released Warcraft: Orcs and Humans, it has been involved as a third-party developer in the production of various entertainment software. This includes various platforms for Super NES, MS-DOS, Macintosh and Sega Genesis.
Blizzard Entertainment recently released a system called Blizzard Account. This allows people who bought Blizzard products such as Diablo II, StarCraft and Warcraft III including its expansions, to download games that they have purchased without having the game CD. A plan in underway to store a players game level or “Blizzard Level” when achievement points in World of Warcraft” is added in the system.
