Description: Boca Research was established by Mr. Timothy J. Farris in 1985. The present headquarters of Boca Research can be found at Clint Moore Road, Florida. When initially offered to the public, a total of 2.8 million common stocks at $14.50 per share were tendered for public purchase. These shares corresponded to shares owned by the company’s founder, Mr. Timothy Ferris and said shares were jointly managed by The Robinson-Humphrey Co. Inc. and Raymond James & Associates Inc.

In 1987, Boca Research entered into a deal that lead to its acquisition of the assets and operations of the bankrupt German company Creatix Polymedia GmbH together with other affiliated companies. The Creatix Polymedia GmbH was a company then engaged in the design and manufacture of modems, communication products as well as ISDN equipment. These products of the dissolved company were purchased by various corporate and consumer markets.

To further strengthen Boca’s position in the mode industry, Boca Research also took control and acquired all assets of Global Village Communications that is connected to the latter’s modem business. The acquisition involved $10 million in cash and notes with the corresponding assumption by Boca Research of the dissolved company’s liabilities. Boca paid an initial amount of $4 million with the remaining balance made payable for a period of three consecutive months.

With the 1998 acquisition, the company envisioned the company’s strengthened market position particularly of the IBM compatible with PCP referrals. The acquisition was also seen by the company as an opportunity to capture the Apple Macintosh market whose clients had previously chosen Global Village Communications as their product provider.

Boca Research is in the IT industry and technology particularly modems, networking devices, computers, peripherals as well as various technology solutions. The company is also venturing into the software market by designing applications that could be compatible with the company’s hardware products.
