D & M Holdings integrates acquired companies to fit into its brand portfolio as part of its acquisition strategy. Boston Acoustics, along with its sister label, Snell Acoustics, was acquired in 2005, by D & M Holdings. In the same year, Charlie Randall was named as Boston Acoustics’ president.
D & M Holdings was the result of the merger between Denon Ltd. and Marantz in May 2002. But it began its long history, since 1910 as Denon, a part of a company called Japan Gramophone Co., which was named later as Nippon Columbia. Denon Electronics became a premier label in Japanese equipment in 1939. It became an international specialist in audio and home theater, and is responsible for most of the significant technological breakthroughs in the industry.
Marantz has been a pioneer in hifi technology since 1953. Its products are well known to include superior audio parts that the industry has ever produced. The company is well respected for creating technical innovations, unprecedented sonic performance and flexibility in operations.
After merging with Marantz Japan Inc., D & M Holdings continued to acquire top electronics companies and placed them as leader who would share the global market under one world-class management.
McIntosh Laboratory, another subsidiary of D & M Holdings was acquired along with Escient in 2003. It is known for excellent craftsmanship and the release of an amplifier with live audio power. McIntosh introduced in 1979 its speaker products, but today, it is known as a luxury brand that delivers audiophile dream products.
Boston Acoustics continues to be involved in the production of speakers and table radios. Along with Snell Acoustics, it offers a .5dB system tuning and innovative engineering in a distinctively manufactured cabinet, a feature that gave them the edge for many years.
