Breve Drivers

Description: Breve was initiated by Jonathan Klein in May 1999, his thesis project as a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science student of Hampshire College. His thesis then was entitled “Computer Based Physical Simulation for the Evolution of Artificial Life.” Breve is an open-source engine that makes simple and easy the creation of three-dimensional (3D) multi-agent simulations.

In 2002, Breve was later expanded as Jonathan Klein’s Master thesis at Chalmers University. His thesis was then entitled “breve: An Environment for Simulation of Decentralized Systems and Artificial Life.” Its founder was responsible for developing Breve into a 3D visualization software at the time that he was employed at the Hampshire College School of Cognitive Science as a Senior Researcher and Instructor in computer science.

On May7, 2001, Breve was initially released. Around 21 revisions were made on its graphics, language and physics support. The latest and most current version of Breve is the 2.7 version. It is again undergoing improvements to be utilized in large scale project involving evolutionary dynamic simulation.

Breve is a user friendly application. The application employs as its language tool, Python or Steve. Breve also offers other agent-based simulation environments that include NetLogo, Swarm or Mason. Each simulation has its own field of specialization on various kinds of simulation.

The company’s strength is built around 3D and realistic physical simulation. It also has a rich OpenGL display that makes it easy and simple to explore simulated worlds by using a variety of effects and angles. The OpenGL display also allows the simulation of movies.

The latest Breve version is the version 2.7 which is known as a much-improved Python compatibility for simulations. The latest product has additional features such as texturing, lighting, archiving and dearchiving, fog rendering, improved shadowing, and enhancements in terrain support. Breve also allows the creation of realistic 3D backgrounds as well as updated demos.

Breve works automatically on various frameworks including Pylons Cherry Py, TurboGear, and Django. It can also work single- handedly without the need of any framework. The product is available for systems operating under Linux, Mac OS X and Windows.
