Description: Casio Computer Co. Ltd., a Japanese company that is engaged in the design and manufacture of various electronic devices, was established in 1957. The company headquarters is located at Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, Japan. The company is headed by Mr. Kazuo Kashio as company President.

The company’s story began in April of 1946 when Tadao Kashio, a fabrication technology engineer, designed the Yubiwa pipe, a product that has the dual function of a ring and a cigarette holder. The pipe enabled the user to smoke a cigarette without having to lay hands on the cigarette or its nub. The apparatus was a major victory for Kashio as demand for it was high on account of the high use of cigarettes at the post-World War Japan.

In 1949, Tadao Kahio attended a Business Show where he had a first glimpse of the world’s first electric calculators. From his earnings in the Yubiwa pipe, Tadao Kasio together with his siblings diverted their earnings to design and manufacture their own calculators.

Prior to entering the calculator business, most of the calculators were operating with the use of hand cranks, gears and even motors. However, with Kasio’s technical knowledge in electronics, he was able to develop a solenoid-based calculator.

The calculator was approximately the size of a desk but it was considered as the first electronic or mechanical calculator in Japan in 1954. One of the highlight of Kasio’s product is the “full keypad”. Another distinguishing feature of his invention is an integrated single window display as compared with other calculating devices’ three window displays.

The company is also remembered for producing in 1957 the world’s first compact all-electric calculator, Model 14-A by using the relay technology. This development led to the establishment of the Casio Computer Co. Ltd.

The company’s electronic musical equipment also gained prominence in the 1980s. Casio is regarded as among the foremost makers of analog and digital quartz-crystal watches. Its wristwatch product line made the company more popular to the consuming public. At the same, the company develop the calculator watches which was a very innovative product displaying the ingenuity of the company.

The company’s watches were also the first to display various pieces of information such as atmospheric pressure, various time zones, GPS position, temperature and altitude. The watches are known not only for the multi-functionality it offers but also for their durability.

Casio diversified its operations and to date the company has a wide range of electronic devices offered to the public such as cameras, musical instruments, computers, mobile phones, televisions, audio equipments and Personal Digital Assistants (PDA) as well as cash registers.

Casio is also acknowledged for creating the first digital camera having an LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) type screen. The company was also responsible for introducing the first three megapixel camera as well as the foremost super compact digital camera. The first ceramic-lens based camera was also the product of Casio.
