Description: Chinon Industries, Inc. or also known as Chinon Corporation Ltd., was founded by the late Hiroshi Kayano in October 1, 1962. The company was initially established with the name, Shokai Co., Ltd (SANSHIN). The initial capital that was used for the company was 100 million yen with main operations centered in the design, development, manufacture and marketing of optical products. The company’s current president is Masazumi Tino.

Chinon earned prominence for the production of digital still cameras that was branded under the Kodak name. Aside from this, the company is also involved in the design and manufacture of OEM products for other enterprises. Chinon is proud to have been one of the first manufacturers of cameras who launched the integration of Auto-Focus lenses. At that time, the feature needed to be bought separately.

The company released to the US markets in November 1995 its most noted virtual reality product, CyberShades. This product was created particularly for personal computer systems. CyberShades is the first reasonably priced peripheral system that offers users high-resolution three-dimensional imagery delivered through a standard VGA computer display. It delivers an immersive virtual reality experience to users with a design similar to normal sunglasses.

This breakthrough in technology provided game players a whole new experience in visual entertainment. CyberShades has tapped the full resolution effect provided by computer displays to create distinctive three dimensional objects, may it be video, animated or still images to the user’s screen.

CyberShades used a propriety technology on LDC shuttering that is possibly based in the company’s camera innovations. The attempt eliminates discomfort in visualization like flickering that accompanies viewed stereo images in the display.

The product is compatible with any Windows operating system and is connected through the computer’s parallel port. The design of the product is ergonomic which allows the user to wear it comfortably for an extended time. Some games that have benefited from CyberShades are Depth Dwellers, Wolfenstein 3D, Math Rescue, Redwood Games’ Word Rescue, VR Slingshot and Descent: Destination Saturn.
