Description: The year 1984 witnessed the establishment of a Taiwan-based private company called Compal Electronics. The said company chose Neihu District Taipei in Taiwan as its main place of business. But this does not mean that Compal Electronics did not take the time to spread its wings. As a matter of fact, Compal Electronics has branches in different countries like United Kingdom, China and United States of America.

Compal Electronics is under the leadership of Ray Chen who also acts as the company’s Chief Executive Officer and President. Compal Electronics’ executives such as Chairman Sheng-Hsiung Hsu and Senior Vice President and Chief Finance Officer Gary Lu assist CEO Chen.

As of date, Compal Electronics has an approximate of 17 wholly owned subsidiaries in different areas. But like all other companies, Compal Electronics did not just sprung out of success. The company started out as a small and struggling distributor of computer peripherals back in 1984. After several years, Compel Electronics took the plunge and ventured into offering various IT and computer products and devices.

Compal Electronics first offered laptop computers in 1989. The company successfully made its mark as one of the world’s first manufacturers of laptop computers. Compal Electronics eventually recorded 500 billion dollars as its annual revenue.

Although the company has been very promising, Compal Electronics has not yet dominated the production of laptop computers. Like in other industries Compal Electronics also has competitors. Quanta Computer, considered as the biggest laptop manufacturing company in the world, is the Compal Electronics’ main adversary. Fortunately, Compel Electronics is running at close second along Quanta Computer. In Taiwan, Compel Electronics is joined by Inventec and Wistron to compete for the market.

The company focuses on providing products and solutions in information technology, electronics industries and computer hardware. Aside from offering several models of laptop computers, Compel Electronics also manufactures GPS-based PDAs.

Compel Electronics also has a hand in manufacturing and marketing mobile and computer devices that helps enhance the market’s interactivity. As a matter of fact, the company is also offering Pocket PC phones, monitors, digital media devices and other cell phone products and gadgets. Compal Electronics was also tapped by Option, a company based in Belgium, to offer HSPA 3G connectivity for various Mobile Internet Devices or MIDs. The company also produces units for popular brand names such as Hewlett Packard, Acer, Compal and Dell.
