Company Name: Conexant

Description: In January 1999, Conexant was established by the Rockwell International Semiconductor division. Conexant was also created from several Rockwell acquisitions which are ComStream’s Hi-Media broadband business and Brooktree Corporation. Red Bank, New Jersey is where the main office of the company is based.

The former Rockwell Semiconductor began to create convergence video segments and set-top boxes right after the acquisition of Brooktree. The company’s main products are PVRs and TV tuner DSPs for PC add-on cards.

In 2002, Conexant’s fabrication operations were sold bearing the name Jazz Semiconductor. Then the company’s product fabrications were outsourced to other semiconductor companies. In 2003, Conexant and Globespan Virata merged. Broadband solutions along with Wi-Fi and DSL were provided by Globespan. Broadband technology access was provided to Conexant. This technology is compatible to digital media peripherals.

The next year, Semiconductor was purchased. New technologies were added to Conexant which are H.264 and VC1. Though, in April 29, 2008, the company’s Broadband Media Processing division was acquired by NXP Semiconductors.

Broadband communications Sytem-on-Chip solutions are the company’s main concern. The products are intended for carrier network and home use. Through the company’s products, the users and public access networks are able to connect to broadband Internet.

On the other hand, personal access devices and service carriers are supported by the company’s semiconductor system solutions. Maintenance of dial-up and broadband internet connections are supported through the current brands. It is maintained together with residential gateways, game consoles, and computers together with voice, processing and relaying data and video.

Other products include a DSL line, home networks processors, Passive Optical Network (PON) and cable modem solutions, system solutions, broadcast video encoders and decoders and digital set-top box components. Dial-up modem production is also being maintained by Conexant.

Other products of the company are dial-up and modem processors. These are utilized in modems, ATMs, credit card swipers and facsimile machines. Softmodem processors’ HSF and HCF standards are integrated in modems that are sold in the market.

At the present, Conexant is the biggest engineering and development asset in the broadband field. After the merger with Globespan Virata, Inc., Conexant was created. In 1989, after the innovation of DSL created with Bell Labs the division was established.
