Description: Involved in the Information Technology (IT) industry since the early part of the 1990s, the company made its mark with its involvement in the production of audio card devices for Personal Computer (PC) systems. At the peak of its operations the company was responsible for introducing to the computer market a wide array of multimedia peripherals to enhance the level of experience for audiophiles.

The company established as CrystalLake Multimedia Inc was widely represented by one of its more visible management luminaries, William Schaeffer serving in the capacity of Chief Financial Officer. The company had reached such a stature in the IT industry that it became one of the most preferred brands of audio cards utilized by various Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) like IBM, HP, and Dell. The company’s products were incorporated in majority of their high-end desktop computer systems.

The device manufacturer constantly faced challenges from a very competitive market. It attempted to stay afloat by focusing its efforts in constantly improving the quality of its products and services introduced into the market. The company also relied on the substantial impact it had made on the market along with the various strategic business partnerships it has put in place during its existence in the market.

The company suffered tremendous loses when high end computer system manufacturers initiated the incorporation of integrated audio technology into their computer motherboard designs. The company failed to quickly adapt to this growing changes in the industry and resulted into its eventual disintegration in 2002.

This trend virtually eliminated the use of a separate audio card peripheral for majority of desktop computer systems. Whereas majority of the audio card players in the computer market followed this trend by going into the manufacturing of components to be integrated into the computer motherboard design, CrystalLake was forced to initiate the shutting down of majority of their manufacturing facilities due to the decline in market demand.

The audio card market became almost exclusive to audio professionals that demanded more from their systems in terms of performance and sound reproduction.

This also subsequently opened the company to take over and acquisition attempts. Prior to its complete termination of its operation, the company had released a total of 16 different types of add-on audio cards to the computer market. The company is widely credited for the presence of the Crystal Fusion and the extremely popular ESS brands of audio cards into the market.

These audio cards remain supported by various third party websites up to this day. The technical support issued on these audio cards variants remain limited to the software support drivers to allow their operation in newer operating system environments. Customer support services ceased along with the closure of the company.

In 1996, CrystalLake Multimedia made one of its biggest impact in the industry with the release of its Model 140 audio card along with the Model 650 speaker system which is huge improvements over the standard audio systems that accompany multimedia desktop systems at the time. This system features creation, recording, and listening functionalities that also supports superb computer gaming sound reproductions.
