Company Name: Curitel Communications

Description: In 1983, the Curitel Communications Inc. was created. In 1993, it is considered to be the first company to manufacture CDMA mobile phones. Since then, the company has started distributing CDMA mobile phones in the United States.

Pantech Co. became an affiliate of Curitel in 2001. Back then, the company was supervised by Mr. B.Y. Park. The company is recognized not only in local markets but also internationally. Now, the company is being traded in the KSE or Korea Stock Exchange.

Through the company’s business partners, Curitel became known in the United States. From then on, the company managed to sell over 5 million units. The company produces mobile phones with high quality and numerous features. In 2004, the company and Pantech focused on becoming the leading manufacturer of mobile phones. They targeted to manufacture 20 million mobile phone units.

Originally, the company was known as Hyundai Electronics’ Wireless Division then it was changed to Hyundai Curitel, Inc. After a few months, the company removed Hyundai and just went with Curitel. This is to signify that it is independent from the company Hyundai. Today, the main office of the company is in Korea. It is now recognized as the main provider of CDMA handsets, CDMA equipments, camera phones and several telecommunications products. The company has manpower of over 1400 people.

To expand its horizons, Curitel had a contract signing amounting to US$ 730 million with Audiovox regarding the CDMA handsets. In China, the company had good experiences in the CDMA and GSM market. Pantech is partnered with Curitel Communications Inc. which is a company located in Korea that produces handsets. The company uses the name Pantech and Curitel in Korea operations.

An announcement was made in January 2003 by a top provider of integrated wireless modules stating that it had a contract signed with Curitel Communications Inc. The contract includes the Wavecom’s terms of quad band WISMO modules to the company. This is to combine it with Curitel’s new series of high-end GPRS and GSM multimedia mobile phone devices. The new devices are to be presented in China and United States markets during the third quarter of the 2003. Subsequently, Wavecom will provide widespread integration support for the product.
