Company Name: Cyclades
Description: The Cyclades Corporation which was founded by the Brazilian engineers Daniel Dalarossa and John Lima in 1991 derived its name from the Cyclades Network Project. The company which maintains its headquarters in Fremont, California was created by its founders under the concept of their research work including with their interests in the wide scale end to end network designs concept. In France this was considered as an emerging technology during the early part of the 1980s.
Data Center Management (DCM) using the deployment of power control, console access solutions, and system management remains the primary focus of the company’s operation. This service is designed to minimize unplanned computer network environment downtime. While maintaining its operation base in Fremont, the company has profitably established its presence in the global economy through the opening of its 15 corporate sites in various parts of North America, Europe, Latin America, and the Asia Pacific rim.
In exchange for the amount of $90 million in cash, the Avocent Corporation successfully acquired Cyclades on March 31, 2006. Through this purchase, Avocent assumed the responsibility for the payment of Cyclades’ liabilities and transaction costs. Prior to this acquisition, Cyclades generated unaudited revenues amounting to approximately $60 million annually.
The bulk of these revenues come from the company’s presence in the computer market under the area of delivering network management, servers, switches, and similar devices explicitly for the Linux Operating System platform. These market products gained the reputation of providing customers with high levels of security, customization, scalability, and flexibility in terms of implementing various system protocols.
Despite being establishing its presence as a global leader in the IT infrastructure management industry, Avocent decided to retain the Cyclades product line upon its acquisition. The decision was made to preserve the existing market share created by the Cyclades Corporation during its participation in the IT industry.
Under the ownership of Avocent, several strategic business partnerships were initiated using the Cyclades product brand. Some of these IT industry stalwarts include IBM, HP, FSC, Dell, and Intel. Cyclades successfully maintained majority of its Fortune 100 clients in the likes of Microsoft Corporation, FedEx, Exxon Mobile, Home Depot, and Time Warner.
Cyclades’ product portfolio was attributed with the responsibility of monitoring, analyzing, and remote accessing of network traffic within various corporate environments. The AlterPath product family released by the company to the IT market provides users with a way of implementing remote server management solutions with automation and security. This product family also supports various network equipments and devices that form part of the corporate network configuration.
AlterPath is specifically developed with the intention of minimizing human intervention in various processes while decreasing maintenance and operation costs. Some of the more prominent enterprises to benefit from the products and services of the company include Deutsche Bank, Disney, Nokia, Sun Microsystems, and the Wal-Mart Store chains. During the height of its operation the customer base of Cyclades reached 8,000.
