Description: Cypress Semiconductor Corporation (CSC) was founded in 1982 by T.J. Rodgers together with the former people of the AMD (Advance Micro Devices). It was backed by Sevin Rose.

The company designs, develops, and manufactures high speed chips like EEPROMs, CMOS SRAMs, TTL logic devices, and PAL devices. Its designs are based in Silicon Valley.

Since it started, CSC established has partnered with subsidiaries to strengthen its work force. However, it makes sure that its subsidiaries maintain a certain degree of autonomy. The company’s popular subsidiaries are Sunpower Corp and Silicon Light Machines.

Since mid 1990’s, CSC has been acquiring companies as part of its developmental strategy. The acquisitions it made include:

The company’s diverse product lines include CapSense Express, Backplane Interface & Clock Mgmt, Application Specific Clocks, Clock Distribution, PREMIS (TM): SSCG EMI Reduction, Programmable Clocks, and RoboClock Skew Management. It is also involved in Control Communications, development of High-Brightness LED Solutions and EZ-Color HB LED Controllers.

Its image sensor line consists of industrial and customized imaging sensors. It also implements Laser Navigation Solutions via its OvationONS products.

For memory modules, Cypress produces Dual-Ports, Async SRAMs, MicroPower SRAMs, FIFOs, Non Volatile Memory, Quadport DSE, Sync SRAMs, and Wafer & Die memory variants.

The company maintains its base in San Jose, California with various divisions located in the United States, Philippines, and India. It has labs in Texas and Minnesota, as well as in Ireland and Belgium. CSC also has 14 design centers and over 40 sales offices worldwide. It is recognized as one of the pillars of the semiconductor industry and a giant in the IT community.

The company earned a stunning $1.6 billion in revenue for the year 2007 while employing nearly 6,000 personnel. It also maintained its Memory and Imaging, Data Communications, and Consumer and Computations Divisions.

Xilinx, Samsung Electronics, Integrated Device Technology, and Microchip are CSC’s direct competitors.
