Description: FinePoint Innovations was established in 2000 in a spin-off that was funded by the employees of Mutoh America’s Pen Input Business. The electromagnetic pen input technology was developed way back in 1991 when the Kurta Corporation established its pen system division.
The establishment of the said division paved the way for the entry of the company into the computer market that is pen-based. It was 1995 that Mutoh Industries managed to purchase Kurta. All of the patents and pen technology of Kurta had been retained in the brand MagicPoint.
In September of 2005, FinePoint Innovations and the technology of the MagicPoint digital pen were acquired by InPlay Technologies which is based in Arizona in the United States. It was in that same year that the company released its latest digital pen solution. The product afforded provided a significant advancement capacity more than almost all other tablet PCs that used the common analog system.
FinePoint Innovations uses the active digitizer technology. The active digitizer has electronics that are separate from the touch panel or surface of the device for digitizing. FinePoint lists the several advantages of the MagicPoint 800 Writing Pen System including its lower power usage, superior system performance and lower production costs as opposed to an ordinary analog pen. The ergonomic design specifically addresses form, function and feel.
Among the other products of FinePoint Innovations is the FinePoint MPD 900. The said product is a complete assembly that is composed of an Active Power Grid that has an integrated Pen System Controller or PSC electronics package and a Passive Sensor Grid that utilize the active RF Electromagnetic System.
Another product manufactured by the company is the FinePoint MPRD 95x which is a resistive touch input platform and an integrated dual-mode active pen. Furthermore, FinePoint products also include the FinePoint MPCD 97x that is an integration of the dual capacity touch inputs and the active digital pen.
The key executives of Inplay Technologies include Stephen V. Hanson, chairman and chief executive officer, Van Potter, president and chief operating officer, Mark Sokolowski, chief financial officer, Peyman Hadizad, vice president and director of applications and systems engineering, and Bill Housley, vice president for business development.
Top executives also include Tim Kuhn, senior vice president and general manager of Duraswitch Division, Eric Vandewater, vice president for engineering, and Heather Beshears, vice president for corporate communications. Among its strategic partners are Japan Entry Corporation, WPG Holdings and Nuvation.
