Company Name: Fujitsu
Description: The Japanese company Fujitsu was established in Minato, Tokyo. The company is involved in the production and development of supercomputers, telecommunications, semiconductors, personal computers and servers.
It was on June 20, 1935 that the company was established as Fuji Tsushinki Seizo or Fuji Telecommunications Equipment Mfg. Fuji was a spin-off of the company Fuji Electric Company which had been a joint venture of the Germany-based Siemens and Furukawa Electric Company.
In 1954, Fujitsu was involved in the manufacture and launching of Japan’s first computer, the FACOM 100. The year after that, the company put up the company soccer club, Kawasaki Frontale. Fujitsu opened its office in Montreal, Canada in 1973 and the following year, the company launched an expansion which went on until 1984. The said international expansion covered a number of regions in the United States, Europe and Australia.
The computer variant referred to as the FM Towns was created by Fujitsu in 1989. This variant was specifically intended for multimedia purposes and video games. It was on the following year that Fujitsu acquired the UK-based computer hardware and software company International Computers Limited.
In 1992, it launched the world’s first 21-inch color display monitor. Fujitsu employed the plasma technology in designing and manufacturing the said monitor. 1993 saw the release of the video game console FM Towns Marty by Fujitsu. This video game console is reportedly compatible with the games developed by FM Towns.
Two years later, a processing systems firm, DMR Consulting, was purchased by Fujitsu. Then in 1997, Fujitsu made the IBM-compatible computers specialist, Amdahl, its subsidiary.
The strategic partnership that had been established between Siemens and Fujitsu was revived in 1999, forming Fujitsu Siemens Computers which is among the top suppliers of IT hardware in the European market. It was in 2004 that Fujitsu purchased the company Gendera and in that same year, Fujitsu’s subsidiary in Australia acquired Atos Origin’s Australian branch.
Fujitsu Consulting acquired BORN Information Services in 2005 and the following year, the company took control of the management of the GIM Risk Management and Greenbrier and Russel. The Fujitsu Software Corporation and Fujitsu Computer Systems merger was completed by 2006.
The rich history of the company has put Fujitsu among the most successful companies not just in Japan but in the entire world. As of late, Fujitsu’s product line includes mobile phones, scanners, pen-based computers, Ethernet switches, notebook computer hard drives, Lifebook notebook series, PRIMEPOWER, PRIMEQUEST, SPARC Enterprise and tablet computers from the company’s computing products division.
