Description: Genicom Corporation is a company that was established in 1983 after General Electric sold its relays and printer groups the year before. GE had divided the company into several business units. It was in the 80s that Genicom relocated its offices to Chantilly, Virginia.
Genicom was a leading printing solutions provider for the market of mid-range transaction document printing. The company had been involved in the development and distribution of high performance serial, line matrix and laser printers. The company business and product line eventually expanded via strategic partnerships and acquisitions.
It was in 1987 that Genicom acquired Centronics’ assets in the printer business. The said venture resulted in the production of an additional LineWriter series of band printers and 350 series dot matrix printers to the product line of the company.
Genicom would later purchase the printer business of Texas Instruments in 1996. The said acquisition gave the products of Genicom a new line of boarding pass, baggage tag and airline ticket printers. It was on the same year that the company bought the Printer System Corporation or PSC which became Genicom’s group for laser development and produced printers that had Kentek and Lexmark engines.
Digital Equipment Corporation’s printer division was purchased by Genicom in 1997. The company then continued to manufacture printers that had the logos of both Digital and Genicom. The assets of Digital Equipment were later acquired by Compaq. It was on August of 2003 that Genicom went into a merger with Tally forming Tally Genicom.
The resulting company is presently among the largest companies specializing in business-class printers. Its product line includes industrial and business printers, printer parts, printing solutions and printer parts. The printer types include color laser, impact and laser printers, line matrix, serial matrix and monochrome laser.
Among the company’s competitors in the printing industry are Xerox Capital Trust, Advanced Materials Corp., Foxcom Ltd., Kyocera America, Inc., and Arrow-Tech, Inc. The printers of Tally Genicom have integrated a number of key features into its product line for the purpose of providing an enhanced productivity and performance. One such printer is the Intelliprint controller.
The said printer technology allows the migration of legacy data into printers without losing data integrity. It is therefore capable of providing better-quality data visualization. Another printing technology employed by the company is called the Intellifilter which allows the modification of legacy data streams without having to reprogram applications.
