Description: Goldtouch Technologies, Inc. had been established by Elizabeth and Mark Goldstein in 1997 in Austin, Texas. The conception of the company had come earlier on in Sidney, Australia where the two had brainstormed on a number of products for the Goldtouch product line.
The company is a world-class leader in the development and manufacture of ergonomic office and computer equipment and peripherals that include mice, ergonomic keyboards, numeric keypads for the Macintosh or the PC, laptop stands, foot rests, mouse pads, HSPD-12-compliant smart card keyboards and monitor arms.
The Texas-based company, KeyOvation, had obtained the Goldtouch line’s intellectual property rights in 2004. KeyOvation is engaged in the delivery of ergonomic and security solutions that provide small-scale to medium-scale enterprises.
Their desktop solutions have been intended for maximizing human efficiency. The Goldtouch product line aims to assist companies lower operations costs, improve competitiveness in the industry and enhance productivity.
In 1998, before Goldtouch technologies was acquired by KeyOvation, the company had been up against Microsoft Corporation in a lawsuit. Goldtouch had sued Microsoft for patent infringement and accused the said company for illegally employing the Goldtouch design in the Microsoft Intellimouse Pro.
At a meeting in September of the previous year, Goldtouch had presented an ergonomically superior computer mouse to Microsoft Corporation in a failed attempt to get a licensing agreement with the software giant.
Microsoft then introduced its own ergonomic mouse the year after the said meeting which, according to Mark Goldstein, Goldtouch president, had appropriated features of Goldtouch mouse that were patented including the technology discussed during the meeting.
The ergonomic security keyboards of Goldtouch were employed to help in cutting back the US$600 million compensation expenses of workers in the Department of Defense. The product line of Goldtouch aims to address ergonomically-related injuries by reducing ailments that are caused by work-related stress such as muscoskeletal disorders and carpal tunnel syndrome that are acquired from using office equipments that are non-ergonomic.
The Goldtouch product line has been recognized for its versatility, comfort and user-friendliness. In a study made by the VSI Risk Management and Ergonomics, an ergonomics firm headquartered in California, nineteen out of twenty people using the Goldtouch keyboard as a substitute for the traditional flat keyboard had easily figured out how to comfortably position the ergonomic keyboard without needing additional instruction. Users’ reviews reveal support and comfort in the usage of the Goldtouch line.
