Description: The year 1952 marked the setting up of Germany’s first television station encouraging companies such as Grundig Intermedia to enter the market of television receiver production. The company took as an opportunity the difficulty in creating new equipments, such as radios, after the Second World War left Germany in ruins. With this situation, the demand for the repair of existing devices was tremendous.

Grundig Intermedia was established by the radio dealer Max Grundig. Right after the company’s inauguration, he designed and created two of the company’s first products called the Tubatest Tube and the Novatest testing device.

For the next succeeding years, Grundig had a remarkable success in producing more devices including factories and production sites to put into application all the bright ideas of Grundig. The company produced devices such as home video recorders, tape recorders amplifiers, speaker systems TV sets, car stereo, typewriters and answering machines.

In year 1984, the Dutch Philips group took over the interests in Grundig hence management of the company was transferred by Max Grundig in favor of the group that was taking over.

The year 1986 was a great year for the company as the first color television using the 100 Hertz technology and produced on a large scale was offered to the world market. The company continued to develop and design devices to make the company in touch with the booming television industry as well as the rise in demands for video and satellite-related equipments.

However, notwithstanding the success that Grundig had achieved in its chosen field, the Dutch Philips group severed its relationship with Grundig in 1997. The year 1997 however marked another historical moment for Grundwig as 1997 marked the year when the company the company’s entry in the expanding Internet industry.

The company was able to release to release a device called Internet box WB1 that allowed any user to use a television set in getting access to the World Wide Web.

At the beginning of the new millennium, Grundig became one of the companies that released MP3 players that could be downloaded with music directly from the Internet. The company did not stop there as it also designed and released other communication and entertainment devices such as the Tharus 38 LCD and the Fine Arts PlanaVision.
Products produced by Grundig are not only recognized within Germany but also elsewhere in the world particularly within the European region. The company also expanded its product line by entering the consumer electronics industry, producing equipments that involve the application of HD technology, mobile technology and personal care tools.

On January 2008, the Turkish company Koc Holding completely took over the operations and management of Grundig Multimedia B.V. in which half of the outstanding shares were owned by Alba Radio Ltd, a British company.

Grundig Intermebdia GmbH is presently involved in developing and producing TV sets. The company’s production plant based in Turkey but the products produced are still under the supervision of German engineers.
