Description: Harris Corporation was established by the brothers, Alfred Harris and Charles Harris in 1890. The company was established for the sole purpose of developing a new printing press to get rid of the painstaking way of hand-feeding paper into the press.
On December 23, 1895, the two brothers formally established the Harris Automatic Press Company. When the 50s era came and after the corporation had established itself as the most successful firm in its field, the company expanded its line of service by becoming more than just a printing equipment manufacturer.
To make possible its plan of expanding, the company entered into a strategic merger with Intertype Corporation in the year 1957. The merger resulted in the creation of the Harris-Intertype Corporation and as a new-face company, the plans and visions of the company had to be expanded. Harris then conceptualized the idea of becoming of both print and electronic communication products.

Harris Corporation was able to develop several programs intended for defense applications such as Avionics, Battle Space Networks, MILSATCOM and Data Links. The company’s Avionics program is engaged on searching for the finest technical supplements for the development forward-looking technologies.
The company was also able to formulize various programs for the community and the government that fall under healthcare, government systems, deployment and training and international and national information technology services.
The company also put focus on national security issues by introduced advanced systems on intelligence, sensors, surveillance and monitoring. Its programs delving on civil aspects offered solutions on matters like air traffic and weather. These two issues were resolved when the company developed air-to-ground and ground-to-air communications and meteorological programs, respectively.
Harris Corporation acknowledges the fact that all of its success would not have been reached were it not for its trial-and-error policy. Despite its enormous success as a whole, the company also produced some unsuccessful inventions in its product line such as the nail feeder, a 24-hour clock instead of the standard 12 hour-clock and a racing speed indicator.
