Description: High Tech Computer Corporation, a Taiwan-based company, was established in 1997. The company’s better known name is HTC which has been used by the company in most of its dealings with other companies. The abbreviation has also been associated in the international scene for the company’s mobile devices. These HTC phones operate under the Microsoft Windows Mobile platform and the Android operating system.
The company’s top executive team is headed by Cher Wang as Chairwoman. She is ably assisted by Peter H.T. Chou as Company President. Incidentally, Cher Wang is the daughter of the wealthiest Taiwanese and also holds the position of Chairperson for VIA Technologies.
When the company entered the market, it first began as an outsourcing firm for the original design manufacturer (ODM) under Microsoft Corporation. After the company had established itself in the mobile industry, the company began its endeavor towards becoming an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) in support of its products and also mobile devices of other mobile operators.
To expand its product portfolio, the company established a subsidiary company known as Dopod to be in charged in the production of PDA phones.
The company joined the Open Handset Alliance to ensure that it s hardware components are compliant with the standards set under the Android operating systems. The company was able to produce the T-Mobile G1, the company’s first mobile device that operates using the Android operating system. The T-Mobile G1 was initially planned under the name HTC Dream.
The T-Mobile G1 was the premier product of the company which was soon followed by phones, PDA phones, Smartphones, and mobile Computers.
Products produced by High Tech Computer Corporation are made available under various names such as HTC, Dopod and QTek. The company’s products are also used by a number of telecommunication companies as integral component for their products. These companies include Bell Mobility, T-Mobile, Orange, Telus Mobility, Sprint Nextel, AT&T, Verizon and O2.
The company’s most recently produced and released product is the Touch Viva. The product uses the HTC-patented TouchFLO system that makes possible 4-way navigation control with the use of the Enter button. Other features of the product are a 2.8-inch TFT-LCD touch sensitive screen with a resolution of QVGA 320 x 240, 2.0 Megapixel Camera, Wi-Fi using IEEE 802.1 b/g, Bluetooth and a Quad band support network.
