Description: In January 10, 1976, Akio Hosono established one of the leading IT companies in Japan—the I-O Data Device, Inc. The company was located in Kanazawa, Japan during its founding and later moved to Ishikawa, Japan.

Part of the company’s goal is to expand all its products and services as vastly as it could. There were different subsidiaries of I-O Data created overseas operations which include the Taiwan I-O Data Device, Inc., I-O & HY, Ltd. in Shanghai, China, I-O & YT, Ltd. in Hong Kong, and the I-O Data America, Inc.

In the early existence of I-O Data, the company focused on initiating many technologies in Japan. They were the first to introduce a technology called graphics display design and on-line loom control PC to Japan’s textile industry. The first generation of microcomputers in Japan was also introduced by I-O Data.

Later, I-O Data was recognized as the foremost provider and manufacturer of different memory enhancement tools for computers that were carrying the brand name Sharp. The 8-inch floppy drive was also offered by the company in 1983.

Today, the I-O Data is the leader in the industry of computer peripherals in Japan. It is also considered as among the leaders in the industry of manufacturers and distributors of high quality computer peripherals and interface items in the world.

Included to the computer peripherals being designed and distributed by I-O Data are memory devices, wireless LAN devices, memory cards, gigabit Ethernet devices, LCD, storage devices, and other multimedia products.

Hard disk drives are among the most popular and successful products of the company. External Hard Disk Drives, HDL-GXW series, and HDC-UXW series are among the widely used hard disk drive products from I-O Data.

The HDL-UXW series is known for its faster transfer speed rate compared with its competing brands. Their hard disk drive series also features the immediate use of certain devices because of the integration of a software called FAT32 Formatter.

The HDL-GXW series, on the other hand, features the easy recovery of files that have been mistakenly deleted, thanks to its Trash Box Function that makes this feature possible. Also, this series allows users to have an access to shared folders through an Internet connection.

To date, I-O Data, Inc. continues to create their legacy in the industry where it is already known to excel. The company was awarded as BCN Best AWARD 2008 for its different computer peripheral products.
