Description: Randall Fowler founded Identix Inc. in August 1982. It had a startup capital of $250,000 dollars. Focused on biometric technology, the company went public in 1985. In 1992, the company acquired ANADAC Inc. ANADAC had provided technology services for the government since it started in 1981. Identix investor Ascom Hasler Ltd. funded the buyout.
In March of 1986, Identix also bought Fingerscan Pty Limited. Fingerscan had previously supplied hardware to the company. Identix further expanded by acquiring the Indiana and Illinois government offices of Archival Solutions (IAS) as part of a buyout.
Identix further expanded with its acquisition of Biometric Applications Inc. in July 1997. The purchase included contracts with the Defense Department and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The company also entered a joint venture with Sylvan Learning Systems Inc. In April 1999, Identix purchased Identicator Inc., a major rival in developing fingerprint technology.
Identix, Inc. has provided identity and security solutions for various corporations and government agencies, as well as for online web access solutions. It is one of the pioneers in biometric technology. It develops hardware and software that allows fingerprints, handprints and eyes to be used in security and identification.
The U.S. government and law enforcement agencies used the Automated Fingerprint System (AFIS) that the company provided in 1994. Identix also released the TouchPrint 600 in October of the same year. This product received accreditation from the FBI in March 1995, the first system to do so.
In May 1998, the company developed and released Smart-Touch. It was a touch screen interface used to provide access with a touch of a finger. The company also released a new line of fingerprint identifiers in October of the same year. These were the TouchSAFE Personal, F3 System Integrator Kit and Touchnet III. They were developed for desktops and servers.
Identix and Motorola entered into an agreement in November 1999 to develop a product named the DFR 300. It was an optical fingerprint reader for security purposes. The agreement was the first under itrust, a new division for secure transaction services over the internet and wireless transactions. In January 2000, they introduced BioLogon software for the Windows 2000. Another security program was released under the itrust division in June 2001. The recent application controlled access to information and data sharing transfers in open or closed wired connections.
