Company Name: IOI

Description: The IOI Technology Corporation was started in Taipei, Taiwan in 1994. The company’s name stands for its major business: Input/Output Interfaces. IOI designs and distributes I/O solutions for a number of devices. The products are based on USB (Universal Serial Bus), SATA (Serial Advanced Technology Attachment) and 1394 technology. These are used to connect computer parts and devices to each other so that exchange of data may be possible.

The company started out developing SCSI (Small Computer System Interface) products in 1995. Some of the first products were released in 1998 and 1999. These were 1394 to PCI Host adapters. The one released in May 1998 was a Non-OHCI Compliant IEEE adapter called 1394TT. This was followed by the release in March 1999 of 1394TTO, an OHCI Compliant version.

IOI continued to develop new products. It launched a Firewire to IDE bridge board called FW-142 in October of 2000. Subsequent products include a FireWire 800 and USB 2.0 to IDE bridge board, FireWire to POF Repeater, FireWire 800 to GOF Repeater, and PCI Express host adapters. The company recently started to develop docking stations and network storage solutions.

Most of the company’s products are distributed to OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) and ODM (Original Design Manufacturers). Its products are used to provide storage access solutions for a number of devices. They are used to manage digital content and data which are stored in different memory devices. IOI products are used for networks, servers, workstations and desktop computers.

Aside from these connection devices, the company also manufactures and sells other products. These include enclosures, mobile rack and tray, card readers and front and rear connects. Power supplies and forensic equipment are also sold by the company. One of its recent product catalogue expansion is the production of encryption devices.

Worthy to note is the fact that all of IOI products undergo quality check, starting from their design to their manufacturing stage. During product quality control testing, each device is expected to perform at a higher level than the prevailing market standard. The products also undergo testing for the control of open electrical shorts, quality of welding, and surface and clean tests.

The company markets for the distribution of its products through entering into agreements with OEM’s and ODM’s. These agreements are directly entered into by IOI, One of these successful distributorship agreements is that with a company based in Germany called Tragant Computer Berlin.
