Description: Iomega Corporation, a US-based company was established on April 2, 1980 at Roy, Utah, USA. The company is principally engaged in the distribution of network storage, portable computer storage solutions and media devices.

The company’s main headquarters can be found at San Diego, California, USA with branches and offices stationed at Switzerland, Singapore and Utah.
Presently, the company has around 208 employees included in its payroll.

In 1982, the company introduced its first product called the Alpha Full Height Bernoulli Box. The product is a storage device with a disk having a 10Mb storage capacity. A year later, the company released an updated version of the product which it called the Alpha 10 Half Height Bernoulli Box.

In April 1986 and November 1988, the company launched its BETA-20 Bernoulli disk and Bernoulli 44 device, respectively. An updated version of the Bernoulli 90product was again in 1991.

In July of 1992, Iomega Corporation launched the Tape 250 Drive. Other products that were introduced by the company for the year 1995 were the Zip 100 Mb Internal Drive and the Jaz 1Gb drive.

In 1996, the company again released various products such as the Ditto Easy 3200 Drive model, the upgraded Ditto 2Gb drive as well as the company’s first laptop drive called the ZIP 100Mb.

In June of 1997, the company introduced two more products called the Buz Multimedia Producer and the Ditto Max 10Gb Drive. Within the dame year, the Jaz 1Gb drive was upgraded with the introduction of the Jaz 2Gb drive. Before the year ended, the company launched the Clik! 40Mb drive and disks.

The company commenced the distribution of the Jaz 2Gb on February of 1988 while the Zip 100Mb USB drive was openly distributed before the end of the year. For the Clik! 40Mb PC card drive, distribution commenced on June of 1999 together with the Zip 650 CD-RW drive.

The year 2000 proved to be another fruitful year for Iomega as the company was able to launch and distribute an additional three products. On October 2000 came the release of the FotoShow Digital Image Center and on November the IBM Microdrive product was made available to the consumers. The company ended the year on high notes as it introduced on December the
CD-RW external drive Predator.

CD-RW drive products of Iomega, particularly the HotBurn program were soon being shipped out beginning the year 2002. On the same year, the company again introduced a new product line when it began designing and manufacturing mini USB flash drives.

On June of 2008, Iomega was acquired by the EMC Corporation. Iomega maintained its operations but this time as a subsidiary company of EMC Corporation. The company continued designing new products and for 2008, the company’s more recent products consist of servers and external hard drives.

Just very recently, Iomega’s eGo Rugged line of portable hard drives was approved by the test conducted by Popular Mechanic. The test was made to determine the level of integrity of the Iomega product when subjected to a series of abuse. Various drives were dropped from various heights ranging from four to fifteen feet and only the eGo Camo product remained intact when dropped at the height of fifteen feet. Anther test that was made is to have a Chevy Tahoe vehicle run over the external hard drive which the eGo Camo withstood with only minor damages but stored files remaining intact.
