Company Name: Juki

Description: The Juki Group of Companies is a leader in the international machine manufacturing business. It started in 1938 under the name Tokyo Juki Manufacturer’s Association, with main offices located in Tokyo, Japan. The company was formed by 900 machinery makers from the city who came together. The company was renamed Tokyo Juki Industrial Co. Ltd. in 1943 after a corporate reorganization of its departments.

In the year 1945, the company decided to focus on manufacturing consumer-end sewing machines for the home. In1953, Juki expanded to make and sell sewing machines for industrial purposes. Eight years later, Tokyo Juki Industrial Co., Ltd. expanded its production line to include computer peripherals. The company also became involved in the stock market, listing its shares in the Osaka and Tokyo Stock Exchanges.

In 1962, the Tokyo Juki Industrial Co., Ltd. established the Juki Semitsu Co., Ltd. Since then this company has moved its main facilities to Ohtawara City in the Tochigi Prefecture. The company remains a consolidated subsidiary of the Juki Group. The stocks of the Juki group increased the following year due to expansions in Hiroshima City. The company also owned the majority of Nakajima Seisakusho Co., Ltd.’s stocks by 1968.

The company expanded its domestic operations consistently. The JDK Corporation was established in the Akita Prefecture in 1973. Eleven years later, the Juki Credit Co., Ltd was opened in the Fuchu City area of Tokyo. The Juki Group’s Industrial Sewing Machines Division also received the Deming Prize in 1981.

In 1987, production facilities of the company were updated to include automatic and electronic machines. Tokyo Juki Industrial Co., Ltd. changed its name to the Juki Corporation in 1988. The same year, the company bought the Union Special Corporation.

The Juki Group expanded global operations by establishing international offices. In 1970, the office in Hong Kong was created. Juki (Europe) GmbH was opened in Hamburg, Germany two years later. 1974 saw the opening of Juki America inc. in Florida. Juki Singapore Ltd. was opened in 1995.

In later years, the company acquired and established more companies. These included companies manufacturing automation systems, clothes and appliances. The company’s stocks were removed from the Osaka Stock Exchange by July 2005. It established subsidiary companies in Central Europe and Asia in 2005 and 3006. A separate company was also created for home appliances in April 2007.
