Company Name: JVC

Description: The operations of JVC or Victor Company of Japan, Limited commenced in 1927. It was previously a subsidiary of The Victor Talking Machine Company, an American-owned company, which transferred its ownership to RCA-Victor in the year 1929.

JVC’s current president is Kunihiko Sato, while its primary owner is Matsushita. In 2007, JVC allied with Kenwood and SPARKX Investment which resulted into the reduction of Matsushita’s share to 37%. On October 1, 2008, JVC Kenwood Holdings was created when Matsushita decided to merge with Kenwood.

At present, JVC has existing headquarters in Alabama, Australia, Austria, Brazil, China, Dubai, New Jersey, Panama, Singapore, Toronto, and the United Kingdom.

JVC manufactured phonographs and records when it was first established. In 1932, it began producing radios. In 1939, it created the first television set particularly for the Japanese market. During the World War II, JVC was dispossessed from its foreign investors. As a result, the controlling interest in the company was owned by Matsushita from 1953 to August of 2007.

Subsequently, the industry standard VHS format was developed by JVC. Consequently, in 1977, it launched the first VHS recorders and tapes. The former, initially cost 1,060 US dollars. The prior year’s Betamax format by Sony was rivaled with the release of the VHS format since VHS had superior quality that enabled longer recording time. In 1988, Sony started manufacturing its own VHS recorders as it conceded the format war.

In 1970, the Videosphere, as one of its most popular products, was launched by JVC. With an optional alarm clock positioned at the base, the videosphere was a TV shaped as a CRT, inside a casing similar to a spherical helmet. The JVC CQ-F2K, a portable music player similar to the Sony Walkman was also introduced in 1982.

Likewise, in 1986, JVC’s HC-95 personal computer which used a Zilog Z80A processor operating at 3.58 MHz was developed and marketed. It used the MSX Basic 2.0 operating system for its 64Kb of RAM. Abiding by the standards of graphics for MSX-2, the said computer also had two 3.5” floppy disk drives.

Computer-related electronics, software, multimedia devices and equipment, and audio-video gadgets, such as cables, cameras, televisions, speakers, monitors, speakers and navigation devices, are still continuously being developed and distributed by JVC.
