Description: in October 17, 1987, Kingston Technology was created. The founders of the company were John Tu and David Sun and the company was created as a result of lack of memory chips at that time. The founders were able to develop a Single In-Line Memory Module that makes use of existing technology.

In 1996, 80% of the company was acquired by SoftBank Corporation which was priced at $1.6 billion. In 1999, the founders were able to buy it back. Toshiba and Kingston then collaborated in November 1996 in order for the companies to distribute Toshiba personal computer memory upgrades. The collaboration was considered to be the first in terms of memory and PC OEM production.

In the year 1997, the company was able to build its main office in UK. At the beginning it opened its manufacturing sites in Taiwan then it established another in Dublin, Ireland. The sales offices were opened in Japan. In 1997, main offices in Europe were opened. In 1998, additional production facilities were built located in Fountain Valley, California.

In September 1994, the company was able to acquire its ISO 9000 certification. In 1995, the company opened a branch office in Munich which will provide technical support and marketing to the European distributors and clients.

Several years after, Kingston manufactured memory chips. In 1994, the company created portable devices which are DataPak and DataTraveler. The Advanced Validation Labs, Inc. is a sister company created by Kingston in the year 2000. A separate company, StorCase Technology, Inc. was created from the company’s Storage Products Division. In the same year, Payton Technology Inc. was established to take control the new supply chain model for the memory chips production.

In July 2002, the company launched its patented memory tester. Then the company’s memory modules HyperX line was launched in November 2002. The same year, the patented EPOC chip-stacking technology was also released.

In 2004, the flash memory card warranty was changed by the company into a lifetime warranty. The USB drives’ DataTraveler Elite line was launched in September 2004. The drives made use of an embedded secure encryption.

The Kingston Tehcnology Company recently has 4,500 employees. The company was listed in the Forbes magazine as “100 Best Companies to Work For” beginning 1998 to 2002. Today, the company is providing servers, computer parts, printers, flash memory devices, mobile phones, and digital audio players.

In the year 1995, the company sales reached $1.3 billion. In return, the company published ads thanking each employee in the Wall Street Journal and Orange County Register, Los Angeles Times. Separate ads were published for distributors and suppliers in the trade publications and Wall Street Journal.
