Description: Madge Networks was a technology networking company pioneering in high-speed networking solutions. The company was founded by Robert Marge in the year 1986. It was based in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

In the year 1990, the company’s Fastmac technology was licensed to Cisco Systems. Five years later, in the year 1995, the company merged with Lannet Data Communications, a networking specialist company focusing on LAN switches for Ethernet-based networks in Israel. The company widened its licensing agreements with Cisco Systems to include Cisco’s IOS software.

In August of 1997, Madge Networks decided to restructure the company. The company then began concentrating its activities in the similar England-Israel time zones. In 1998, Lucent Technologies bought Madge’s Ethernet Technology LANNET. In the year 2003, Ringdale, Ltd., a supplier of advanced networking solutions, absorbed Madge Networks after the company filed for bankruptcy.

Madge Networks previously had been one of the global pioneers in the supply of networking hardware, before its absorption. Its products included ISA/PCI network adapters, ISDN backbone carriers, routers, and work group switching hubs. Madge developed and provided convergence solutions in Token Ring, ATM, Ethernet, and ISDN networking technologies.

The company started to dominate the networking market when it introduced the Token Ring technology. In the late 1990s, Madge took the lead in developing the standard and first implementations of High-Speed Token Ring technology. Using this newer technology, a scalable bandwidth from 16 to 100 Mbps was achieved, reaching gigabit-level speeds.

Madge Networks centered on the video conferencing technology, ATM market, and other ISDN carrier applications. It produced routing, switching, and WAN-LAN interfacing equipment. The company also developed a specialty in Edge Switching Nodes and other carrier equipments in line with the trend of digital telephone lines.

Under Ringdale Ltd., Madge Networks continues to pioneer in the next generation of networking solutions. It enables a full distribution of Enterprise Wireless and 100Mbps and Gigabit speed IP-based applications. The Token Ring line has extended from adapters to multi-technology backbone switches.

In June of 2005, Madge was short-listed as a finalist at the prestigious Techworld.com Network Awards under the Wireless Security Product of the Year category.
