Description: National Instruments, established in the year 1976 by James Truchard, Bill Nowlin, and Jeff Kodosky, is a producer of virtual instrumentation software and automated test equipments. The company is headquartered in Austin, Texas with global operations in more than 40 other countries.
National Instruments has recently made major changes to its administrative staff by promoting six long-term employees to the position of Vice Presidents. John Roiko, who joined the company back in 1998, was promoted to the position of Vice President of finance in General and Administrative (G&A). Robert Chalk was promoted as the Vice President for the Instrumental and Distributed control position, and Andrew Krupp was promoted as the VP of Quality and Continuous Improvement position. The VP of Modular instruments position was given to Scott Rust, the VP of Marketing position was given to John Pasquarette, and the VP of Marketing and Tests position was given to Eric Starkloff.
National Instruments offers a wide range of technological instruments ranging from controllers to serial cables as well as the software necessary for the proper operation of these instruments. The company’s primary focus is on developing the Data Acquisition (DAQ) and the Robotics portions of their business.
Advancing robotics to meet specific real world challenges, National Instruments has developed systems containing four separate areas of development: Control design and simulation, sensing and actuation, embedded controller programming and network communications. One model is the Spider, operated remotely as an underwater vehicle created by Nexans, a worldwide leader in cable systems for both gas and oil applications.
Nexans created the Spider so it could be operated via remote from a ship so the North Sea floor could be prepared for a pipeline that draws out natural gas in harsh conditions. To cancel out the disturbances of harsh seas, Nexans designed a complex pull compensation system that dynamically controls the cable tension that attaches the ROV to the ship.
National Instruments is reducing the ecological impact that is caused by the way that they design and create their products. The company has done this by devoting many of its resources to improve product development and manufacturing. Through this, they are able to present customers with more environmentally-friendly products. The company continually watches and interprets environmental requirements, eliminates harmful substances from current products, and bans the introduction of any identified hazardous substances into any products.
