Description: National Semiconductor is a semiconductor developer and manufacturer specialized in the production of analog devices and systems. It is currently based in Santa Clara, California, USA.

In May 1959, Dr. Bernard J. Rothlein was working in Sperry Rand Corporation’s Semiconductors Division when he and seven other business associates decided to leave. Rothlein soon founded National Semiconductor in Danburry, Connecticut afterwards.

In the year 1962, National Semiconductor acquired Molectro. This brought the company two experts in linear semiconductor technologies. The merger with Molectro allowed National Semiconductor to launch the manufacture of monolithic integrated circuits. National Semiconductor also started making silicon mesa transistors for military and industrial applications.

In 1967, National grew quickly under Chief Executive Officer Charlie Sporck and the new management. It began to enjoy success in the heart of what is known today as Silicon Valley. Brian L Halla and Steven R. Appleton are the current Chairmen of the Board of Directors of National Semiconductor.

In 2007, Corporate Responsibility Officer Magazine named National Semiconductor as one of the Top Ten Best Corporate Citizens. The Silicon Valley Journal also recognizes National Semiconductor as one of the Top 20 Philanthropists.

Wireless handsets and displays are the company’s key products. Other products include audio amplifiers, display drivers, power management circuits, and communication interface products.

The Mobile Pink Link and MPL’s LM2512 high-speed serial host device are two of the newest in the National Semiconductor product line. The LM2512 is used to support video interface between the display and the processor in multimedia handsets. Its latest launched product is a programmable quad equalizer extending 10 Gbps of data transmission rates of high-speed serial busses.

National Semiconductor is dedicated to energy-efficiency and protection of the environment. The company possesses a strong background in the creation of energy-efficient integrated circuits. Using the PowerWise band of IC’s, National Semiconductor’s designers were able to create electronic systems using less power, generate less heat, and extend the life of batteries and other power sources.
