Description: Olivetti is an Italian computer manufacturer specializing on printers and other kinds of business machines. This company was founded in 1908 in Ivrea, by the outskirts of Turin, Italy by Camillo Olivetti.

Typewriter manufacturing was the first sole business of Olivetti in 1930 under the supervision of the founder's son, Adriano Olivetti. The company has then opened its first manufacturing facility outside Italy. Adriano Olivetti has been recognized to be the person who made the biggest contribution to the company in terms of developing and innovating pieces for its product line. After the typewriter, Olivetti marketed an electric calculator called Divisuma in 1948.

After a short span of time, Olivetti has been able to come up with new products that responded to the documenting needs of individuals, firms and enterprises. This company has been able to manufacture an electronic typewriter, requiring less effort from the user in pressing the keys at the same time giving apt amount of strength in pressing the typecast letters into the paper.

Then Italy’s first electronic computer came, the Elea 9003. After proving its electronics and technology stability, it has been able to acquire another typewriter company and then sold its electronic division to America's General Electric (GE) Company.

Olivetti has been able to release several other models of its computing devices. It has also tried to serve the needs of every part of the house wherein electronic computing and entertainment could be required for home improvement, like manufacturing the fully multimedia PC for the living room. It has also been able to establish itself in Switzerland as a major manufacturing yard, second from the main one located in Italy.

Currently, it has a total of 83 sales associates across the globe. It has several research and development facilities in Italy and one based in Switzerland. Its present corporate name is Olivetti Tecnost, even after its several acquisitions of companies and shares, including its absorption with the group Telecom Italia.

At present, Olivetti manufactures its products according to its high technology simplicity principle. It has also been able to simplify the groups of its target markets into three: home, office and business. Aside from computing devices,

Olivetti also now hugely produces fax, scanners and printing devices, which are now what the company is more popularly known to manufacture. Calculators, microsystems, multifunctional printers and its corresponding cartridges are among the current product line-up of this company. It has also manufactured special computing products such as gaming terminals for lotteries and service automation machines for electronic voting.
