Description: Olympus Corporation is a Japanese technological company that specializes on developing and manufacturing optic technologies and imaging. It was established on October 12, 1919; under the name Orinpasu Kabushiki-gaisha. It initially focused on manufacturing thermometers and microscopes.

Although Olympus holds its headquarters in Tokyo, Japan; its major overseas manufacturing facility is based in Center Valley, Pennsylvania. It also has a European distribution headquarters which is based in Hamburg, Germany. The company’s name has been inspired from Greek mythology’s heavenly house of gods called Mount Olympus.

Before it settled on its present name – Olympus, it had already undergone several name changes due to the varying flagship products. The company tried to create products depending on the trend. The numerous acquisitions and absorptions it has encountered also contributed a great deal to the said changes in name over the years.

At the moment, its camera and lens products are their primary products; which they distribute all over the world. These however, have also had their share of the long history of development dating back to 1936 when Olympus released its first camera called Semi-Olympus I. In 1959, Olympus proceeded to introduce its PEN series of cameras in the market. It is considered the first innovative move of the company.

Olympus is also known for producing audio recording devices. It is the first company that has invented and released micro-cassettes as an outlet of recording audio sounds. However, it was designed to be compatible with the Olympus Microcassette Voice Recorder. Olympus made gadgets like these have become a popular choice for people on the go due to its portability and performance efficiency.

During the 1980s, Olympus released the Pearlrecorder L400. It was quickly recognized as the lightest and smallest Microcassette recorder that had ever been put on sale at that time.

Although more popularly known as a brand for cameras, Olympus also has several related businesses delving into health and scientific research. Optic solutions by Olympus are being used within microscopes, diagnostic testing instruments and other devices that help man to probe the human body and other microorganisms which could be beneficial to the modern medical technology. It also has a healthcare division which is based within state-of-the-art Olympus facilities. The Olympus healthcare laboratories are divided into three major parts.
