Company Name: Panasonic
Description: Panasonic is an electronics company based in Osaka, Japan. The man behind the conception is Konosuke Matsushita who founded Panasonic in 1918 as the Matsushita Electric Industrial Company Limited. It manufactured electronic products under various brand names such as Technics and National. With factories established all over the world, Panasonic is now known to be the largest Japanese producer of electronics.
The company adopted the brand name ‘National’, first used for its bicycle lamps, in 1927. This was to reiterate the founder’s commitment of ‘relating to a nation.’ The brand name ‘Panasonic’ was used only after the company started manufacturing and exporting audio speakers in 1955. ‘Technics’ was first used as a brand name in 1965. In October 1, 2008, the umbrella company’s name was formally changed to Panasonic Corporation.
Panasonic regrouped after World War II and started supplying Japan with radios and other appliances. Sanyo, founded by Toshio Lue, Matsushita’s brother-in-law, also began subcontracting Panasonic product components that same period.
In an effort to put together its manufactured merchandise all around the globe, the company opted to use the brand name ‘Panasonic’ for all its products and then came up with a slogan: ‘Panasonic Ideas for Life.’
The complete brand names used by Panasonic Corporation are: Nais – a manufactured component for automated systems, Ramsa – produced professional audio equipments, Rasonic – produced home appliances for the Chinese market, Technics – produced audio equipment, Quasar – produced budget-priced video equipment and appliances for the North American market, National – manufactured home appliances for the Japanese market and Panasonic – manufactured audio and video equipments, personal electronics, microchips, and automotive components for the global market.
Panasonic’s computer components, however, are named ‘Matshita.’ This is because Microsoft imposes an eight-character limit for the names of its device handlers.
Panasonic’s claim to fame in the computer industry is the Toughbook. This laptop is easily recognized for its rugged aesthetics because it was designed for use under extreme conditions. This Panasonic Toughbook can be commonly seen in public safety departments, fire departments, police offices, and emergency medical services departments. It is also used in the construction industry, the military and the US Navy.
