Details: Protocol RTSP
Protocol RTSP, or the Real-Time Streaming
Protocol, is used in conjunction with the delivery of real-time
streaming content such as audio and video over the Internet. The
protocol RTSP is primarily involved in the control of the streaming
media, not the transmission of it. Transmission of streaming media is
typically handled by the Real-Time Transport Protocol (RTP). When
viewing real-time streaming media such as an Internet video clip, the
media player features VCR-like controls that are used to start, stop,
pause, or rewind the video. The protocol RTSP is used for establishing
and controlling these sessions between end points. Protocol RTSP is
detailed in RFC 2326 listed with the Internet Engineering Task Force.
The protocol is quite similar to the HTTP protocol by design. Many of
HTTP’s extensions can be used with RTSP. Among the operations supported
by protocol RTSP are: retrieving media from a media server, issuing
invitations to media servers to join an existing conference which is a
multi-party, multimedia presentation, and the addition of media to
existing presentations. The next time you watch an online streaming
video or listen to streaming Internet music, the Real-Time Streaming
Protocol is likely involved.
