Details: Protocol WMMS
The protocol WMMS is a specialized protocol used
in conjunction with real-time wildfire monitoring and modeling software.
For example, the University of Calgary developed a Wildfire Monitoring
and Modeling System (WMMS) prototype that consists of three core
components: a data acquisition system, control center system, and
response system. The first component involves spotting fires through
imaging sensors on aircraft and on the ground. A Web application is used
for as the control center system where the data is collected and
modeled. Finally, users connect to the WMMS and communicate through the
protocol WMMS which uses TCP/IP to link the server and clients.
Depending on how protocol WMMS and the system in general are set up, the
response system may generate alerts. Though protocol WMMS is actually a
specialized system that uses other Internet protocols to facilitate
communications between the client and server, it is a complete system
that uses a variety of technologies to deliver real time wildfire
information. Among the technologies that the University of Calgary
employed as it developed its protocol WMMS are: Apache Web Server, PHP,
Web MapServer, Database Server, and TCP/IP. The WMMS system contains a
number of tools including hotspot tools, trajectory tools, Prometheus
tools, and a manager’s toolbox.
