While HTTP is an Internet protocol and “www” does stand for the World
Wide Web, there is no official record for protocol www.http. However,
many users transpose these two expressions, accidentally entering
protocol www.http instead of the standard “http://www” for website
addresses. To add to the confusion about protocol www.http, the
expression “www.http” is used in conjunction with some Java commands
such as with HTTPURLConnection. HTTP stands for the HyperText Transport
Protocol and is commonly used for serving up Web pages. For example, in
order to connect to a website, you must enter the website’s address
which is typically expressed using the following convention: http://www.domainname.com.
Depending on the domain and how it is set up, you may drop the “www”
portion of the address so that the address looks like: http://domainname.com.
As far as users transposing protocol www.http when entering a website’s
address goes, they will likely receive error messages saying that the
page cannot be found. That’s because the Web server doesn’t recognize
www.http. When used with Java code, these terms appear in a string
containing a number of other terms such as “JNI received a null class
at:
com.apple.mrj.protocol.www.http.HTTPURLConnection.connect(HTTPURLConnection.java)”
or similar.
