DESCRIPTION: Quality Positioning Services BV (QPS) was founded in 1986. It is an independent software design company that focuses mainly on integrating and developing software systems for seafloor mapping, hydrographic surveys, ENC production, and portable pilot units. The company and its products are leading in the navigation industry.
QPS emphasizes in real-time and precise data gathering and presentation related to navigation and depth. This includes new 3D techniques of visualizing the underwater surroundings.
The QPS systems are used in pipe-lay barges, seismic research vessels, drilling rigs, and hydro graphic survey vessels.
In December 2000, QPS merged with HITT, which is based in Apeldoorn, Netherlands. Both European companies are dealing with research and development, seeking to improve water navigation. They were also keen on improving logistics, aimed in developing more efficient systems.
The original format of QPS was consultancy. Later on, it evolved to developing navigation systems consistent with the demands of modern technology. It now provides efficient means of navigation, with a system capable of storing and processing a large volume of data.
In 1996 QPS started the Quality Integrated Navigation System or simply called as the QINSy, which is compatible with Windows OS. At present, it is widely used by an estimate of 1,500 vessels, used to collect, process and navigate data. Due to the success of the product, it marked the turning point of QPS, as it was able to make its presence strongly felt in the market.
QPS launched Qastor in 2000. It is a portable pilot unit used for docking big oil and gas tankers. Other products of QPS include the Qloud, an efficient tool for data validation; Qarto, used mainly for ENC production; Qomposer, a data manager and maker or editor of single S57 *.000 files; and the QPoS, an RTK network available in the Netherlands.
More varieties and supplemental products are being designed and developed through the years. Its market being international, QPS has become integral in the navigation industry. The products of the company are used in mining and measuring water depths.
